The Professor’s Ponderings
Entry 25.47
This week’s entry is going to be short. Not because I don’t feel like writing, but because it doesn’t need to be long. I’m going to set something straight. It’s not because I don’t feel it, but because I don’t express it often enough. I don’t want my wordiness to overshadow the message. This week is Thanksgiving week. The cliche picture that pops into our heads is a family sitting around a table sharing what they are thankful for one by one. The problem with that picture is that it should happen every day. Every day is a blessing. We aren’t promised another one and we don’t know how many we have. When it is our time, it is our time. We should be living every day with gusto, putting forth full effort and being thankful for the opportunity to do so.
So, without any further ado, thank you. First, thank you for reading the ramblings of a crazy man. Somedays I feel like Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory who constantly has to remind people “I’m not crazy, my mother had me tested.” While I don’t think she did, unlike Sheldon, I know I’m a little bit crazy. Or a lotta bit crazy depending on which scale you are using. But that craziness doesn’t stop me from being thankful for you taking a few minutes out of your day to read this every week. So, thank you.
To all of you who have blessed me with the opportunity to work with you on your golf game, thank you. It takes a lot of trust to put your game in the hands of someone else. So much so that I don’t have a coach of my own. I bumble and stumble along in my game just like I tell people not to do. It’s really not that I don’t trust anyone. It’s that the people that I trust reside far from me and I don’t have the time or resources to travel just for a golf lesson. As I wrote that, I realize that’s actually a lie. I do have the time and resources. But my priorities lie elsewhere. Any time and money I spend on my own game is time and money I’m taking away from being able to work with all of you. And your game is much more important than my own. In my eyes at least. I don’t take it lightly when a player decides to work with me. I give every one of them 100% and then some. Could I do less? Probably. But you deserve more. So, I am always working to make improving your game more effective and more efficient. And I thank you for giving me the opportunity to do so.
To my co-workers who put up with me constantly disappearing from our office building, thank you. I know because I am habitually out of my office you field questions and concerns that aren’t your problem. Whether it is a student needing help with a club repair, a HOPE veteran looking to turn in a demo club or pick up their new clubs, or a visitor needing orientation to the facilities for the PAT, I know you pick up the slack when I’m off on an adventure. You all help me out with being at MUGA events so the kids can have social events, and I don’t have to be at all of them. That means missing out on time with your families. It means more than I can ever express that you do that. I am constantly enriched and uplifted through our interactions. Not many people get to work as part of a team like that. I don’t take it for granted, but I may not say thank you often enough. Thank you.
To my rock, my beautiful wife Shelby, thank you. Everyone else only gets to see the crazy that gets let out of the house. You put up with my compulsive need to be in a book, studying for a class or coming up with new ideas to help my students. You put up with me working my full-time job and having a part-time business. You watch as I suddenly pop up off the couch, rush into the garage to test something I just read or watch or to shoot a video for a student who is in crisis and yet constantly tell me how lucky you are to have me in your life. I’m the lucky one. Thank you and I love you.
